How to Care for Your Sew-In and Protect Your Natural Hair
Everything you need to know to protect your natural hair, extend the life of your install, and keep your crown healthy from root to tip.
Your Sew-In Is Only As Healthy As The Hair Beneath It
A protective style should truly protect. With 25+ years behind the chair, licensed cosmetologist Onda Reene Noel created this care guide so every AKX Manes client knows exactly how to nurture both their natural hair and their extensions — because thriving hair underneath is the whole point.

Product Recommendations
The right products protect your investment. Reach for lightweight, non-build-up formulas that nourish without weighing your install down.

Warning Signs & When To Take It Down
Your body will tell you when something isn't right. Don't ignore these signals — protecting your natural hair matters more than keeping a style in place.
Persistent itching, tenderness, or scalp pain

Musty odor or damp scalp that won't dry
Loose tracks, slipping thread, or lifted braids
It's been 6–10 weeks (standard installs) or approaching your scheduled take-down
